Actions Versus Words

“What you do speaks so loudly that I can no longer hear what you say.” ~ Proverb

Here’s a useful little rule of thumb: To determine reality, simply compare a person’s words (what they “say” they do) with their actions (what they “actually” do). To be an effective coach, you must constantly uncover and deal with reality—but words alone can be deceiving. That’s why you must compare your team members’ actions to their words. This is an easy principle to apply. Just view life as if it were a silent movie. Watch the actions of your team. If their actions don’t equal their words, it’s time for you to step in and find out why. Your team’s actions, over time, demonstrate what they truly believe about themselves and their own potential. Your ultimate goal is to help each person on your team reach integrity between their words and their actions. Integrity is the alignment of three things: “what we say, what we do, and what we say we do.”
